Who in the world don’t know Phuket. This is one of tropical holiday destination famous around the world. It has everything to offer, starting from its scenery, public accommodation and activities. What about festival? Phuket has lot of this.
One of them is Phuket vegetarian festival is an annual event held during the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar. It is believed that the vegetarian festival and its accompanying sacred rituals bestow good fortune upon those who religiously observe this rite. During this time, local residents of Chinese ancestry strictly observe a 10-day vegetarian or vegan diet for the purposes of spiritual cleansing and merit-making. Sacred rituals are performed at various Chinese shrines and temples and aesthetic displays such as walking barefooted over hot coals and ascending ladders with bladed rungs are performed by entranced devotees known as “Ma Song”. The vegetarian festival is mainly celebrated by the Chinese Thai community, most of who live in and around Phuket Town. If you want to see something, head for one of the main shrines.
Another festival, the unique one perhaps Songkran Festival. Ready to get wet in this festival. This is the lunar new year celebration from april 13th to 15th. Celebration when Buddha images are bathed and lot of water generally tossed around. How about Loy Krathong or lotus-boat water festival which is held on the full-moon night of the 11th lunar month for sheer beauty. It is celebrated with a wide variety of krathong ranging from simple small version to enormously ornate ones and don’t forget with fireworks ablaze the evening skies. Everything can you get in Phuket but remember that each of the festival has their exact time.
